Lovely hotel set on the edge of the very pretty old town of Rethymno. Staff were lovely. The pool was very nice, with sunny and shady areas along with table and chairs for relaxing at or having very reasonably priced drinks and snacks from the bar. Plenty of sunbeds in May, height of summer maybe more trickier. We had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The room had a small fridge too. There is a supermarket across the road where we brought water and a few refreshments for sitting out on the balcony with. The bed was 2 singles pushed together but as it had a mattress topper, you didn't notice. it was very comfortable. We had a bath with a shower in it. Breakfast was ok, with a variety of foods. The old town is beautiful and this is a great base to explore it and pick out one of the many mouthwatering restaurants, all very reasonably priced - however, be careful around the 'harbour' restaurants (by the lighthouse) - they are very pushy and clever, and we ended up somehow purchasing a fish dish, only to find out, when the bill came, it was 85 euros, the whole meal was 124 euros (most of our other meals were around 40-50 euros) - even better - just buy a drink - but check the price first! The Castle Fortezza is worth a look around. As it was May, there were not too many spare 'books' by the hotel lift, however, we found the Old Bookshop in the town which sold second hand books - a saviour! We did spend one day at the beach, it was around a 10-15 walk. Where we sat, you didn't pay for the sunloungers but you brought a drinks from the restaurant behind - again very reasonably price. the beach was very clean and sandy. We visited in early May and would have like to have done a couple of trips but they didn't start until around the middle of May. Would definitely recommend Hotel Fortezza.

A spacious breakfast room with the option eating out in the garden area. Up on the roof ( access on the 3rd floor ) there was a great view of the hotel pool from above.....the pool was very pleasant, with enough sunbeds for all who were there. From the balcony of our street - facing room we had a good view of life in the street outside. Location was very good: close to the old town area, easy to find from the bus station and very close to the Venetian fortress.

The hotel staff were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. They booked us 2 rooms that couldn't be better for us and my mother. The breakfast was very good and constantly restocked, so it was always fresh. The communal areas were lovely and comfortable to sit in during the day. The hotel is just the right size making it feel homely and so clean.

This is our 4th visit to the Hotel Fortezza and once again it didn't disappoint. The room, bar and breakfast room were excellent and the hotels location with respect to restaurants is superb. Available parking opposite the hotel is a bonus and is at reasonable charge. Finally all staff are friendly and couldnt be more helpful.

Peter

The buffet breakfast was generous, varied and delicious. The pool was an unexpected and welcome pleasure after a hot day exploring Rethymno. The staff were unfailingly helpful, the hotel was pretty and comfortable and is well placed on the fringes of the old town: all this for a very reasonable price.
